about
This track is a lament. It sprung from a heart navigating many questions, a heart that is both broken for and frustrated by the Christian church as a whole because of tainted thinking that can so easily creep into the hearts of leaders, teachers, and (by extension) my heart. My hope is that "religion," that Jesus rebuked many times in scripture, would tempt us no longer and that we see scriptures and the words of Christ the way He intends.

Religion

It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
It’s a mighty fine thing you’ve done to me
It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
You led me down from where I’m meant to be
I’ve had it up to here with your corporations
I’ve had it up to here with your “elite”
But true love was found with a basin in His hands
And got down on His knees to wash my feet
Got down on His knees to wash my feet
It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
It’s a mighty fine thing you’ve done to me
It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
You led me down from where I’m meant to be
You’ve been so busy tyin’ up heavy loads
You’re roping in the “least” to do the same
And cutting your deals on pretense of revelation
All the while you’re preying on the weak and lame
All the while you’re preying on the weak and lame
Your suits and ties adorning dead men’s bones
Your tassels and lies and tainted thrones
You built your altars with your precious stones
Standing so proud and high above the people’s groans
So proud and high above the people’s groans
It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
It’s a mighty fine thing you’ve done to me
It’s a mighty fine thing you been doin’
You led me right down from where I’m meant to be
You led me right down from where I’m meant to be
